STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How to Install an eSIM in Spain — iPhone & Android

Installing your Spain Internet eSIM takes 2–3 minutes. This guide walks you through the exact steps on iPhone and Android — including the common pitfall of forgetting to enable Data Roaming. Have your QR code email open on a separate device before you start.

iPhone XS+ or Android (Samsung S20+, Pixel 3+)

Before you start

  • Your phone must support eSIM — see our compatible devices list.
  • Your phone must be carrier-unlocked (most phones bought outright are).
  • You need WiFi (or your home data) to download the eSIM profile.
  • Open the Spain Internet email with the QR code on a second device — you can't scan a QR code with the same phone that's installing it.

On iPhone

  1. 1

Open the email from Spain Internet

Find the confirmation email from Spain Internet. Your QR code is attached as an image. Tip: open this email on a device that is NOT the iPhone you are activating — a laptop or tablet — so you can scan the QR code with your iPhone camera.

  2. 2

    Open Settings on your iPhone

On your iPhone, go to Settings → Cellular (or Settings → Mobile Data, depending on region).

  3. 3

Tap "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan"

Scroll to the bottom of the Cellular settings and tap "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan". You'll be asked how you want to add it.

  4. 4

    Scan the QR code

Point your iPhone camera at the QR code in the email. The iPhone will read the eSIM profile. Confirm by tapping "Continue".

  5. 5

    Name your plan

Label the new plan something recognizable — "Spain Internet" or "Travel Spain" — so you can tell it apart from your home SIM.

  6. 6

    Set your default line

When iOS asks which line to use for "Cellular Data", choose the Spain Internet eSIM. Your home SIM stays active for calls/SMS.

  7. 7

    Enable Data Roaming (important!)

Go to Settings → Cellular → (your Spain Internet line) → Data Roaming — turn it ON. Without this, data will not flow.

  8. 8

    Test your connection

Open Safari, visit any website. If it loads, you're connected. If not, toggle Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds and off, then retry.

On Android

Exact menu names vary by manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, etc.). Below are the general steps — most Android phones with eSIM support follow a similar flow.

  1. 1

Open the email from Spain Internet

Find the confirmation email from Spain Internet containing your QR code, opened on a separate device (laptop, tablet).

  2. 2

Open Settings on your Android phone

Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs (on Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager). Exact path varies by Android version and manufacturer.

  3. 3

Tap "Add eSIM" or "+ Add SIM"

Look for "Add eSIM", "Add mobile plan", or a "+" button. Tap it.

  4. 4

    Choose "Scan QR code"

Select the option to scan a QR code (instead of manually entering activation code).

  5. 5

    Scan the QR code

Point your Android camera at the QR code in the email. Confirm the eSIM profile details when prompted.

  6. 6

    Activate the plan

Tap "Add" or "Activate". Android downloads the eSIM profile — usually takes 30–60 seconds.

  7. 7

Set as preferred SIM for data

When prompted (or later in SIM manager), set the Spain Internet eSIM as your preferred SIM for mobile data. Keep your home SIM for calls/SMS.

  8. 8

    Enable data roaming

In the Spain Internet eSIM's settings, ensure "Mobile data" and "Data roaming" are both turned on.

  9. 9

    Test your connection

Open Chrome, visit a website. If it loads, you're good. If not, restart your phone and try again.

Frequently asked questions

When will I receive my eSIM QR code?

If your trip starts more than 2 days away, we deliver your QR code 2 days before your start date. If you order last-minute (same-day or next-day), we send the QR code immediately after payment confirmation — usually within minutes.

Can I install the eSIM before I arrive in Spain?

Yes — you can install the eSIM at home before traveling. The plan will activate automatically on your start date when your phone first connects to the Spanish network. Installing in advance is recommended so you have data the moment you land.

Do I need to remove my home SIM?

No. Modern phones (iPhone XS/XR or newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer) support dual-SIM with one physical SIM + one eSIM. Your home SIM stays active for incoming calls and SMS while the Spain Internet eSIM handles your data.

My phone is not reading the QR code. What do I do?

Make sure you're scanning the QR code on a DIFFERENT device from the phone you are activating. Also ensure the QR code image is full-size on screen. If still failing, we can send you the activation code as text — email support@spaininternet.net with your order number.

I don't see "Data Roaming" — where is it?

On iPhone: Settings → Cellular → [Spain Internet line name] → Data Roaming. On Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → [Spain Internet eSIM] → Data roaming. Turn it ON — otherwise data will not flow.

Can I delete the eSIM when my trip ends?

Yes. At trip end, go to the eSIM in your phone's cellular/SIM settings and select "Remove" or "Delete". This frees up one eSIM slot for future travel eSIMs. Note: once deleted, the QR code can't be reused — you'd need a new order for a future trip.

How do I check my eSIM is working?

Open your browser and visit any website. If it loads without WiFi connected, your eSIM data is working. You can also check in Settings → Cellular / Mobile data and verify the Spain Internet line shows a signal.

Is the eSIM also unlimited like the physical SIM and pocket WiFi?

Yes. Spain Internet eSIMs are truly unlimited — no data cap, no throttling, no daily limit — exactly the same as our physical SIM and pocket WiFi products.
